June, 4th, 2024. Written by Clara De Nadal Trias

In Spain we say “la primavera, la sangre altera” (spring is in the air). Truth is that this saying makes more sense than ever specially in Barcelona during the month of June, since it matches with the famous festivals Primavera Sound and Sónar Festival among many others... as well as many gastronomic fairs, all kind of plans for all publics and, in addition, new and not so new restaurants that polish their terraces and update their menus to commemorate the best month of the year in Barcelona.

Here are some of the best and most original offers:

Eat Gaudi

The only gastronomic market that takes place in a Gaudí building, returns to the gardens of the very unique Torre Bellesguard on the weekend of June 7, 8 and 9.

Its privileged outdoor location in this impressive modernist venue together with a varied offer of gastronomy, leisure and culture for all audiences, make this event to be the perfect occasion to enjoy a day with family and friends in one of the most beautiful locations in the city of Barcelona.

Once you’re there, different stalls and food trucks with recipes to try, gastronomic products and items with soul will be distributed behind the medieval walls surrounding the tower. All together forming an exceptional environment in which to have a snack, enjoy children's activities,  dance at a concerts…

Eat Gaudí will once again focus on live music with performances of the most diverse musical styles and also a varied program of workshops and wine tastings will be offered in the stables room.

And for the little ones, a part of the venue will be reserved for children's gastronomic activities that will make their imagination and creativity fly such as decorating cookies and juices with superpowers, where they will learn the properties of seasonal fruits and vegetables, creating their own recipe.

Additionally, Eat Gaudí will also offer one more activity for the little ones in collaboration with Urban Dogs, specialists in dog training, for children who love animals and want to learn how to speak without words.

Last but not least, those who wish to visit La Torre Bellesguard, the most unknown and most historic work by Antoni Gaudí, can do so during all opening hours, at a special price of 12 euros, which will be added to the 5 euros that the entrance to the market costs. Information and tickets

Meat & Fire

On the same days, June 7, 8 and 9th, the gastronomic fair dedicated to meat and grill Meat & Fire returns to Barcelona occupying an area of 6,000 square meters at the Wood Dock in Port Vell. The 40 most prominent grillers on the national scene will share space with special guests, all of them carefully selected by the organization.

Each of them will use a variety of tools such as chulengos, kamados, smokers, robotas, wood ovens and Chinese boxes to make their creations with the best meats available on the market, always with absolute respect for the animal and focused on offering products of quality and authenticity.

The festival will offer a unique experience with several spaces available to attendees, including shared areas, open-air bars, stages for musical performances and a marketplace in which artisans will display products related to meat and grill.

In addition we will also find a varied program of showcookings, presentations and masterclasses, where participants can learn about ancestral culinary products and techniques.

As it demonstrated last year in its first edition, Meat & Fire is not only a gastronomic festival but a platform that advocates respect for the natural environment and sustainability, claiming the value of the connection with the countryside and local producers, as well as promoting conscious meat consumption and equity in dietary models. Celebrate Murivecchi’s 20 years in Barcelona

Murivecchi, the restaurant founded in 2004 by Ciro Esposito and his family that has consolidated as the leading Neapolitan restaurant in Barcelona, turns 20 years old and commemorates this occation by paying tribute to the “Cuccina della Nonna” with an exclusive dish “Tagliolini with porcini, guanciale, saffron and egg yolk.” Sounds good, right?

Located in the heart of the Born neighborhood, Murivecchi offers a selection of the most traditional dishes of Neapolitan gastronomy in a cozy space with capacity for 80 people, where more than 1,000,000 customers have already passed through in these 20 years and making it a benchmark for Neapolitan gastronomy in Barcelona.

Once you’re at Murivecchi’s, the aroma of wood and fresh dough invades your senses, creating an irresistible atmosphere. Their pizza is not just a dish on the menu, but an experience made with sourdough fermented for 72 hours and baked for 90 seconds in a wood-fired oven that reaches 480ºC.

Here each dish tells a story of tradition and excellence; from Gragnano pasta, considered the best in the world, to a selection of the best wines from the most prestigious wine regions in Italy such as Campania to Sicily, Tuscany and Puglia. And you can also enjoy a selection of homemade desserts made with fresh ingredients and recipes passed down from generation to generation, honoring the purest Neapolitan tradition.

Murivecchi has become a benchmark for Italian gastronomy in Barcelona. Its family atmosphere, attentive service and the passion that Ciro Esposito and his family transmit in each dish, turn each visit into an authentic gastronomic journey to the heart of Naples. Address: Carrer de la Princesa, 59.

Delight yourself at Baló restaurant

BaLó restaurant (BA from Barcelona and LÓ from London) offers a unique gastronomic experience in the city of Barcelona where the fusion of Catalan and British haute cuisine conquers all palates.

Its avant-garde and seasonal menu combines traditional ingredients from both cuisines to create unique and surprising dishes. Sorry, very surprising dishes.

Since they opened the restaurant a little over three years ago, the performance of Lena Maria Grané and Ricky Smith - both chefs and co-owners - has led them to obtain recognition from the Michelin Guide with the Bib Gourmand.

Its gastronomic proposal includes an exquisite lunch menu for €28, a tasting menu for €90 and a BaLó menu for €60, which is the one I tried and I explain below:

• Egg in gabardine with curry emulsion
• Crispy salmon cannelloni
• Squid noodles with chicken skin crumble, shiso and chicken broth
• Beans and ham with a disc of stilton gel and a cold pea and mint soup
• Cod wrapped in spinach with a mustard emulsion and potato shingle
• Lamb with eggplant and yogurt
• Chocolate cream with salted caramel
• Black coffee on the rocks

Total €60 (VAT included) Pairing option +€30 (person) Not to be missed! Address: Carrer de Déu i Mata, 141.

So now you see, not lack of options in Barcelona this June. Enjoy!
