Discover the top places that have just opened in Barcelona and the best summer plans to enjoy the city in July.
July in Barcelona is a fantastic month to enjoy the sun, good weather and a lot of plans, festivals, new openings and proposals in the open air. Here some of the best:
Welcome to the new and dazzling luxury restaurant in Barcelona inspired by Jacqueline Picasso. The expectation before the opening at the end of June of this ambitious place has been so big, that with its first announcement on Instagram they collapsed the list of pre-reservations. This new and glamorous three-story multi-space restaurant, located in the center of l'Eixample, has an extraordinary interior design and a history behind that makes you fall in love at first sight. Thus, the explosive combination of Toni Cano (son of Antonio Cano, director of Grupo Sutton), with the prestigious international group of architecture and design, Rockwell Group, brings together a proposal for leisure, gastronomy and live music never seen before in the city of Barcelona.
The new Jacqueline restaurant houses two restaurants in one place with different proposals. The main restaurant has 150 guests with a menu designed to share and generate conversation at the tables. The second one is a Japanese bar with an omakase concept (in Japanese the word means "the chef's choice"), and a Dinner Club where food with live music is offered until 3 am. between drinks and good music. But that’s not all, there is also a Champagne Bar that serves fine cocktails from the hands of the World Class by Diageo finalist, Sergio Pardo. Are you ready? Please remember it’s essential to book in advance. (Carrer d'Enric Granados, 66)
Under the motto: We are a local gastronomy that makes ice cream!, Baboia welcomes us in Barcelona. This new ice cream shop offers artisan ice cream with classic flavors and also specialty ones using and pampering products of the highest quality and proximity: flavors associated with the gastronomy of Catalonia and Spain that will make you want to try them all. But don't worry, if you don't know what to choose between so many flavors, you can spin your Baboia (a roulette game from the old Catalan fairs that sticks to the wall and works by spinning it) to help you decide! In Baboia you will find cava ice cream with tangerine, ratafia (typical Catalan alcoholic drink) ice cream, gazpacho ice cream, coca de San Juan ice cream... Even the quintessential dessert “nun's fart” ice cream and so on… Up to 23 flavors to choose from! The person in charge of this amazing ice cream shop located in a corner of the El Born neighborhood is Laurence Mickalonis accompanied by Jordi Roig, an award-winning master ice cream maker from Canet de Mar. What are you waiting for? (Carrer de Canvis Vells, 2)
Aware that cosmetics are evolving and that the new generations are looking for a world that is more committed to the environment and to their lifestyles, in 2021 the first physical store of All yours opened in Barcelona. The creators saw the need and the opportunity to create a unique space in the city where they could offer the best skin care and wellness products with clean, safe and planet-friendly formulas. But reading this, you may be thinking that this business idea is not new and you would be right... So, what sets them apart from the rest? Easy.
At All yours their firm commitment to the environment and sustainability is focused on achieving European Km 0 marks and also being aware of being sustainable, either through the formula, the packaging or some related solidarity action. Voila! In addition, they are very clear about never recommending products tested on animals and that is why they only work with brands that are really changing and evolving to improve the cosmetics and wellness sector. And if there is something they are sure about, this is that it is possible to look good without giving up on your principles and without destroying the planet. Isn’t it wonderful? Do not hesitate. All Yours store is waiting for you at Carrer de Consell de Cent, 308.
Open-air Cinema
If this is not your first time in Barcelona… You may know that in summer, various spaces in the city are transformed into open-air cinemas. And this year many of the cycles that had to be canceled last year are back and some new ones are added. Here are a few proposals of Pantalla Barcelona:
'Libertad' by Clara Roquet is about the Vidal family, who after a long time without meeting at their summer house, spend their last vacations with their grandmother Ángela that has Alzheimer. Nora, one of the granddaughters, does not find her place: children's games seem ridiculous to her and adult conversations are too complicated for her. Everything will change with the arrival of Libertad, the daughter of the Colombian woman who takes care of her grandmother, who will open the doors of a more seductive and dangerous summer for Nora, far from her circle of family comfort, confronting her inherited privileges.
'Joseph' tells the story of Josep Bartolí i Guiu, a cartoonist and caricaturist for the press of great relevance in the 20th century, who went into exile in France after the collapse of the Republic. He will go through many concentration camps, arrests and escapes, until he managed to leave for Mexico, a refuge for many Spanish exiles. Cartoonist Aurel tells the exciting story of Josep Bartolí in this feature film, and also represents the various stages of his work as a cartoonist.
'Mediterranean' is the true story of two lifeguards who undertook a journey to Lesbos (Greece) that saved thousands of lives at sea. A journey that reveals the daily reality of many people in our world. People who risk their lives at sea fleeing war conflicts because no one rescues them. This feature film is a battle for survival, a fight in which each life has meaning. A true story that must be told and that is the beginning of the Open Arms NGO, which today has already saved more than sixty thousand people at sea.
‘Six conventional days’ by Neus Ballús tells the day-to-day life of Moha, Valero and Pep, workers in a small plumbing and electricity company on the outskirts of Barcelona. Stories that hide reflections on the prejudices that are activated when we are forced to live with someone different from us. A film that is committed to learning to understand the other, leaving behind intolerance and racism.
Sirvent Horchateria (local drink)
Last but not least… If we talk about summer essentials, the typical cold drink horchata cannot be missed. Because there is nothing better and more refreshing for the summer heat of Barcelona than a freshly made horchata. Also at Horchatería Sirvent, they offer the best artisanal one in the entire city, prepared with water, sugar and wet or ground tiger nuts only. So the secret of Horchatería Sirvent's horchata is definitely the craftsmanship of this delicious drink and, at the same time, the quality of the ingredients used to further enhance its flavor. Come and try it at any of its two locations, Horchatería Sirvent never disappoints! (Carrer Parlament 56 and Carrer Balmes 130).
